Today, several clips from Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, the upcoming movie, have leaked onto social media. While at first it was written off as good AI, it has since been confirmed to be authentic. Apparently, Nickeldoeon was hacked overnight, and an early copy of the completed film, including the screenplay, was stolen. This isn’t the first time Avatar Studios leaks have appeared online, following early storyboards for the Avatar: Seven Havens animated series. As well as marketing and branding material for the upcoming animated projects appeared on 4Chan.

Our friend over at @TheAvatarist confirmed that the stolen clips are unfinished, even though the film itself was completed months ago (we will not be posting the clips due to copyright infringement). The clips feature Team Avatar as they first meet the ancient airbender Tagah (voiced by Dave Bautista) and joke about whether he is attractive. The second clip shows Team Avatar in the Spirit World. We at Knight Edge Media have reached out to Paramount for comment. From what we know, the hacker group #PeggleCrew may have released the clips only to show they have the full film and to threaten the studio as their name was watermarked on the clips. It’s unknown whether the studio will release the film now or delay its release due to this leak.

UPDATE: A second story has emerged that this was an accidental email sent by a distribution employee from within Paramount Pictures to addresses outside the company, and that is how it leaked online. Since then, the full movie has been downloaded and reuploaded to many online storage sites, spreading like wildfire.

UPDATE #2: The Hollywood Reporter spoke directly with the original leaker of the two clips, who claims they never posted the full movie, though they had it. And verified it came from a group in Singapore that somehow got an unwatermarked HD version that could have leaked due to a hack. This spread to a hacker community and ultimately to the original Twitter user. Paramount is still currently investigating the situation.

UPDATE #3: The individual who initially downloaded the film off private servers has been arrested in Singapore. They face 7 years in prison and a $50,000 fine if convicted, per Variety.

Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender will stream exclusively on Paramount+ on October 9th
