Today, a report announced that Netflix has begun developing a live-action gothic Dungeons & Dragons TV series titled Ravenloft. John August will showrun and executive produce the series for the streaming platform. He is best known for writing other gothic projects like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Frankenweenie, and Corpse Bride. Meanwhile, Gabriel Marano will serve as EP for Hasbro, and Alfonso Cuarón, Richard Schwartz, and Gaby Rodriguez will serve as EPs for Esperanto Filmoj. Logline for the series reads, “At the heart of the series, Ravenloft follows the making of the vampire Darklord Strahd von Zarovich, whose story of power, love, obsession, and undead transformation charts his origins from tragic antihero to one of D&D’s most notorious villains,” This series will have no connection to the 2023 film Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves as Paramount Pictures recently passed on a sequel (via The Playlist).
