Yesterday, Marvel Studios released the most recent episode of their political espionage series Secret Invasion. Based on the comics of the same name, the short series introduces the MCU to the alien species known as the Skrulls. Following the events of Captain Marvel, the Skrull known as Talos, alongside a small group of refugees, begin working for Nick Fury throughout all parts of the US government as shapeshifting spies. Some of the Skrulls defect and form their own terrorist organization under their leader, Gravik.

Throughout the series, Colonel James Rhodes (played by Don Cheadle) now works directly with the President and effectively fires Nick Fury following his return from outer space after The Blip. After last night’s episode, we are given a massive twist that changes the MCU forever. It seems that Rhodes has been secretly s female Skrull all along. Marvel president Kevin Feige told Marvel.com, “We needed to have a character that one would not expect to be a Skrull. Don was on board for this reveal of playing and revealing another side of Rhodey and revealing that, yeah, Rhodey has been a Skrull.”

Now many fans have wondered how far back was Rhodes switched with a Skrull shapeshifter. And where has the real Colonel Rhodes been all this time? Does he know Tony Stark died following the events of Avengers: Endgame? Finally, who else has been a Skrull in the MCU? All these questions could be answered in the previously announced Armor Wars feature film. The War Machine solo film is expected to feature Riri Williams and Justin Hammer as Tony Stark’s tech has landed in the wrong hands.
