Masters of the Universe has been a classic 80s property that has had many false starts on a reboot. At different points in the last ten years, the film would move forward at both Sony Pictures and then Netflix. Late last year, Amazon and MGM picked up the rights to the film. They are looking to hire director Travis Knight to helm the Mattel property. Knight is best known for his Oscar-nominated animated film Kubo and the Two Strings. He also has the highest-rated Transformers film in 2018’s Bumblebee semi-reboot under his belt. Chris Butler will rewrite the current script after David Callaham, Aaron, and Adam Nee all wrote a previous draft. Kyle Allen was expected to start the film on Netflix, but it will be recast.
