During the ongoing WGA and SAG strikes, Netflix announced it would not proceed with the planned Masters of the Universe live-action movie. Before killing the project, the studio had already spent considerable resources on pre-production costs. Kyle Allen was attached as the lead from directors The Nees Brothers (The Lost City). Now, Amazon MGM has entered talks to pick up the project, though no deal has been finalized. They already had a live-action She-Ra series in development at the studio in 2021. If the deal closes, the Nees will have a new contract to polish the script and be attached to direct.  Mattel is also heavily involved with the project after the success of their other toyline film, Barbie.
