Today, HBO officially announced that it has greenlit the second season of Harry Potter. The plan has always been to adapt each book of the series with each season covering one novel in eight episodes. They recently filmed some reshoots for season 1, which ends in a few weeks. They will begin production on season 2 this fall, and it will cover the novel “The Chamber of Secrets”. Season 1 writer Jon Brown (HBO’s Susession) has also been promoted to co-showrunner alongside Francesca Gardiner. She writes, “As we have laid out our plans for the overlapping production schedules to finish Season 1 by Christmas and to return to production for Season 2 this autumn, it has become clear that bringing on a co-showrunner is the key to maintaining our momentum. I’ve loved working with Jon from the very first day we met on Succession through to these recent times together on Harry Potter. Not only do I have huge admiration for his writing, but he’s also a brilliant collaborator and a lovely person. We are lucky to have him.”

As many know, this novel introduces a young Tom Riddle before he becomes the evil Voldemort. Many fans have begun fancasting Emmy Award winner Owen Cooper for the role after his breakout performance on Netflix’s Adolescence last year. Though nobody has been cast as teenage Tom Riddle just yet. Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout will all return as Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley.

Harry Potter season 1 will debut this Christmas on HBO and HBO Max
