Today, a report announced that Marvel Studios has entered very early development on the next Doctor Strange sequel. The last film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, came out in 2022 and received mixed reviews. Most notably, making Wanda Maximoff the villain shortly after her redemption arc in WandaVision on Disney+, written by Michael Waldron (Loki). As well as the brief introduction to The Illuminati. The movie also had some creative changes after original Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson (The Black Phone, Sinister) exited the franchise and Sam Raimi (Spider-Man, Evil Dead) took over. Derrickson and writing partner C. Robert Cargill’s original plot for the sequel had Strange fighting the occult and the villain Nightmare (via The Direct).

The film ended with a surprise cameo by Charlize Theron as Clea, who warned Strange of more incursions happening across the multiverse. It’s unknown if her character will return in the future Avengers films or the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel. Benedict Cumberbatch is expected to return as Stephen Strange and will have much more say on the director and writer attached to the film this time around. Doctor Strange 3 and Black Panther 3 are expected to enter production after Avengers: Secret Wars completes filming next summer.
