Over the weekend, a new rumor began spreading across the internet about Doctor Doom’s second-in-command in Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday. DanielRPK revealed on his Patreon that the character in the film will be masked with a third eye opening and a sling ring on their hand. Obviously, if you have read 2015’s Secret Wars, you know that Doctor Strange becomes Sheriff Strange. As he helps create Battleworld alongside Doom, he is also the only other person who knows about their lives before Battleworld, as everyone else has forgotten. So this mysterious masked character working with Doom is obviously Doctor Strange, following the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

According to several online rumors, Benedict Cumberbatch was never on set during filming last year, and the masked stand-in was used instead. Surprisingly, he isn’t the only masked character working with Doom; he will have his own “cult of witches,” as in the original comics. In the Secret Wars prologue Time Runs Out, the cult was the beings known as the Black Swans. However, this adaptation may feature known MCU magic users like Clea, Mordo, Agatha Harkness, Sylvie, or even Wanda Maximoff, who could all be secretly working for Doom. Though it’s not clear who exactly is behind the masks, as the actors were all stand-ins at the time of filming. It wouldn’t be that surprising if they are revealed at the end of the film, with extensive reshoots about to begin.
