Today, a report announced that actor Chris Evans has joined the cast of Avengers: Doomsday in an unspecified role. It was hard to imagine The Russo Brothers making another Avengers film without him or Robert Downey Jr, who is set to star as Doctor Doom. While many might assume Evans is returning as Captain America again, the actor has repeatedly stated his apprehension about playing Steve Rogers.

However, after appearing in a hilarious cameo as Johnny Storm in Deadpool & Wolverine, Evans also mentioned wanting to play Johnny one more time. It’s also possible that Evans could portray Hydra Cap from the comics, though that seems a little too “on the nose,” bringing back the old Avengers cast as all evil versions of themselves. Production begins next year in the UK.

Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on May 1st, 2026
