Today, a report revealed that last year’s Blue Beetle live-action movie is getting a semi-sequel in an upcoming animated series. The series will see Xolo Maridueña return to voice Jaime Reyes after appearing in the film. DC Studios head James Gunn already revealed Maridueña would be in his new DC Universe despite his film not being directly connected. Like the series Peacemaker, many of the same actors will return to the new universe even if their original appearance isn’t considered canon. This series will build upon the original film as a soft reboot. Miguel Puga (The Casagrandes) is set to be the showrunner alongside Cristian Martinez (Women of the Movement, Good Trouble) and they have been writing since earlier this year. Director Angel Manuel Soto and original writer Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer will return to executive produce.
