Today, DC Studios co-head James Gunn announced that Xolo Maridueña will return as Blue Beetle in the upcoming rebooted DCU. He joins Viola Davis and John Cena returning as Amanda Waller and Peacemaker. Many fans weren’t sure if he would return once the cinematic universe was rebooted.

However, Gunn reveals that Creature Commandos and Superman: Legacy are still the beginning of the cinematic universe. This means the Blue Beetle film that debuted earlier this summer will not be considered canon. As expected, the new DC cinematic universe will be a reboot with only a few actors playing the same characters in the new universe.
