Back in 2020, Lucasfilm announced a brand new original film by Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins. The director was still working on Wonder Woman 1984 when Star Wars: Rogue Squadron was announced but planned on completing her Wonder Woman trilogy before moving on to Star Wars. Unfortunately, Lucasfilm began pulling back on its theatrical films due to The Rise of Skywalker, and Rogue Squadron ended up on the back burner. Wonder Woman 3 was ultimately scrapped in favor of James Gunn’s upcoming DC Universe reboot.

Now, director Patty Jenkins revealed to the Talking Pictures Podcast that she signed a new deal with Lucasfilm early last year to work on Rogue Squadron again. Unfortunately, the WGA strike would occur in May, forcing the director to pause writing the latest draft. In 2021, screenwriter Matthew Robinson was attached to help co-write the film, but it’s unknown if he is part of the new deal. It’s unknown how far along Jenkins is with the draft, as the writer’s strike ended last September.

Star Wars: Rouge Squadron has no set release date
