Today, we at Knight Edge Media can exclusively announce that actress Rainbow Dickerson will appear in a recurring role on Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender TV series. She is best known for co-starring in the critically acclaimed Indigenous indie film Beans alongside her on-screen daughter Kiawentiio (Katara). She will appear in episode 3 and episode 5 of the live-action adaption. Dickerson is of Thai and Indigenous Rappahannock descent, which indicates she will be a member of the Water Tribe though that isn’t confirmed.

While production ended in mid-June in Vancouver, the streaming service has yet to announce many of the main and minor roles of the series. It should be noted that fellow Beans actor Joel Montgrand (Dickerson’s on-screen husband) is also highly rumored to appear in the upcoming series. With a recent Instagram post teasing the actor involved in a secret untitled Netflix project. However, even though he is yet to be confirmed, his casting would reunite the entire Beans cast beside D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai and Paulina Alexis as they were busy filming Reservation Dogs season 2 in Oklahoma.

UPDATE: Avatar News was able to confirm that Rainbow Dickerson will indeed play Kya, mother of Katara and Sokka.
