Netflix’s ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ Courts Albert Kim As Showrunner

Earlier today, our friends over at The Illuminerdi revealed that Netflix has finally found a new showrunner for their live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series. This comes off the original animated show creators Bryan Konietzko and Mike DiMartino exited the project back in August 2020. According to the report, Nikita & Sleepy Hollow writer Albert Kim has taken over and will showrun the project. The project is still being produced by Dan Lin at Rideback Productions for Netflix.

The report goes onto reveal that the show is expected to reimagine the main heroes ages. While Aang will still stay 12 years old in the upcoming series. Katara and Sokka will swap ages and now be 16 & 14 respectively. It is interesting to see them switch ages as if they would remove the Katara & Aang romantic arc from the original show. Which in turn suggests they will eventually write Katara to be a love interest to Zuko instead. It also doesn’t make much sense as Katara being the younger sibling originally allowed her to mature faster than Sokka after the death of their mother.

Avatar: The Last Airbender will stream exclusively on Netflix
