Netflix is ready to release the second season of its Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action series later this week. Hype has been optimistic about the upcoming season due to the streaming service’s excellent promotion of fan-favorite Toph (played by Miya Cech). Though many fans and critics are still lukewarm on the series, given the “just ok” response the first season received in 2024, with just over 60% on Rotten Tomatoes. Many are unaware that the streaming network greenlit a second and third season of the series in 2024.
The production team ditched filming on The Volume and built practical sets for both seasons, including on-location filming in Iceland for a good chunk of season 3. We at Knight Edge Media were the first to learn that Season 2 of the series would debut sometime in Q2 of 2026. Netflix revealed it would be at the very end on June 25th for the return of Avatar. We can now confirm that Season 3 will release in Q2 of 2027, which means it’ll likely be at the end of the quarter again. Of course, everything is subject to change, but at the very least, it will only be a year or so in-between seasons instead of 2 and a half years. We have also learned that we shouldn’t expect a secret season 3 teaser trailer at the end of season 2, despite the series finishing filming completely late last year. As we previously reported, Avatar Studios has been in communication with Netflix to avoid overlap with its other Avatar projects, such as the Avatar Aang movie slated for release this October on Paramount+ and the Avatar: Seven Havens animated series, slated for late 2027.
