Today, a report revealed that Drew Goddard will write and direct an upcoming sequel to The Matrix: Resurrections. Goddard is best known for helping develop Daredevil season 1 and directing Cabin in the Woods. This will be the fifth film in the long-standing franchise, which originally starred Keanu Reeves, Carrie Anne-Moss, and Laurence Fishbourne. It’s unknown if they will return for the sequel.
Goddard was rumored to be courted by Marvel Studios to tackle Spider-Man 4 but will now be preoccupied with The Matrix. The director said, “It is not hyperbole to say The Matrix films changed both cinema and my life. Lana and Lilly’s exquisite artistry inspires me on a daily basis, and I am beyond grateful for the chance to tell stories in their world.” Original co-writer and co-director Lana Wachowski will stay on to executive produce the sequel.
The Matrix 5 has no set release date
