Today, during Netflix’s TUDUM live streaming event, actress Mikaela Hoover was announced to voice Tony Tony Chopper in One Piece season 2. She has appeared in multiple James Gunn projects, including Guardians of the Galaxy, The Suicide Squad, and this year’s Superman. The character was a longtime fan favorite from the original anime, and fans wondered how they would bring this reindeer-boy hybrid to the live-action series.
“What excited me about playing Chopper is the tug of war between his standoffishness and his huge heart. He tries so hard to hide his emotions and put on a tough exterior, but underneath, he’s a big softy, and his love can’t help but come out. I believe there is a little Chopper in all of us,” she adds. “We all want to be loved and accepted. We go to great lengths to keep the people that we love safe. There’s a purity to his nature that reminds us of what’s good in the world.” – Mikaela Hoover
The announcement also featured Chopper addressing the TUDUM crowd and announcing when One Piece will return to the streaming network for its sophomore season. The series is rumored to film season 3 later this year, but that has yet to be announced after showrunner Matt Owens exited the project.
One Piece is slated to return to Netflix sometime in 2026
