Today, Warner Brothers announced that the creative team of writer Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod will spearhead the upcoming Harry Potter live-action series. This news comes just a day after the series moved from Max to HBO. The duo worked together on over a dozen episodes of the HBO series Succession and won several Emmys for their work. Gardiner was one of the finalists for the gig several months ago and will be the showrunner, while Mark Mylod will direct several episodes of the series.
There is no casting for Harry, Ron, and Hermonie, but the new actors are expected to play the characters for the next decade as every season will cover a different book like the films did in the early 2000s. Author JK Rowling, Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV will executive produce alongside Gardiner and Mylod as well as David Heyman of Heyday Films.
Harry Potter will debut on HBO sometime in 2026
