Last month, Max and Warner Brothers began meeting with several British and American writers to decide who will showrun the upcoming Harry Potter TV series. The series is expected to last ten years and covers each of J.K Rowling’s seven novels, one per season. Jeff Sneider has revealed on Twitter that writer Francesca Gardiner may have won the gig as showrunner. She has worked on past HBO shows like Succession and His Dark Materials. She won an Emmy for her work on Succession. Deadline has revealed that Francesca Gardiner is only a finalist for the job alongside writers Tom Moran and Kathleen Jordan.

Recently, Warner Brothers-Discovery CEO David Zaslav has announced that they expect the first season to hit sometime in 2026 (via Variety). This means casting should begin sometime later this year, with production hopefully starting by the end of the year or early 2025. It’ll be interesting to see what child actors they will hire that are willing to stay on for all seven novels as Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Previously, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint were cast as the three heroes in 2000 at age 12.

Harry Potter will stream exclusively on Max sometime in 2026
