Several months ago, a rumor began online that Marvel Studios was talking to actress Dafne Keen about possibly returning as X-23 in a future project. Keen is best known for her roles in His Dark Materials and the upcoming Star Wars: Acolyte series. Talks broke down as the SAG actor’s strike began in June and shut down production on Deadpool 3 mid-filming. Daniel Ritchman has revealed on his Patreon that Keen is expected to return as Laura/X-23 in the upcoming Fox multiversal crossover film. Keen has long expressed interest in returning to the character she played when she was 12 in 2017’s Logan.

A solo X-23 feature film was in early development with director James Mangold (via The Hollywood Reporter) before getting shut down due to the Disney-Fox merger. It’ll be interesting to see where Laura ended up after the death of that version of Logan and her continuing with her other mutant friends in Canada, as well as her relationship with a variant version of Wolverine, who has never met her before. Production has begun again on the film that will introduce Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) to the entire Fox/Marvel universe.

Deadpool 3 is slated to hit theaters on July 26th, 2024
