Today, Vanity Fair announced that longtime Star Wars writer/director Dave Filoni has been promoted to Chief Creative Officer at Lucasfilm. This has been a long time coming as many fans have grown sour towards President Kathleen Kennedy with her multiple announcements and then abandoned Star Wars projects over the years. These films included Boba Fett (twice), Rogue Squadron, Feige’s Star Wars film, Taika Waititi’s Star Wars film, as well as the Chris Miller & Phil Lord‘s firing on Han Solo. Filoni has been personally learning under George Lucas since his time in Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series as an “apprentice” to continue Luacs’s legacy.

Recently, Filoni has crossed over to live-action projects with The Mandalorian and wrote every Ahsoka episode. He also has a feature film in the pipeline at the studio, Hier to the Empire. Hopefully, under Filoni’s creative leadership, we will get more streamlined storytelling from Star Wars like Kevin Feige has done at Marvel Studios.
