Today, a casting call for DC Comics and Bad Robot’s upcoming Constantine spin-off series has gone out (via Daniel Ritchman’s Patreon). The series is expected to be one of many HBO Max that will lead into a Justice League Dark crossover event. The new series is looking to racebend the character from the typical caucasian to a black-British actor. Sandman on Netflix also slightly changed the character introducing Jenna Coleman as John Constantine’s grandmother. Producer JJ Abrams is also searching for a black actor in his upcoming Superman film.

[CONSTANTINE]
Lead Male (25 – 29) Black. Late 20’s, British, actor.

The series will be a reinvention of the character compared to the Keanu Reeves 2005 film and the NBC series starring Matt Ryan. The new series will step away from the religious, occult aspect of the character and delve deeper into the horror. Fans have long fancast John Boyega (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker) in a black John Constantine. Production is expected to begin around summer 2022 in the UK. Guy Bolton writes the series.
