Today, Legendary Pictures in association with Warner Brothers announced that Dune: Part Two will officially move forward. The original film by director Denis Villeneuve debut over the weekend to massive acclaim by fans and critics alike.

“I laid the base, the basics of the world – it’s done now. I don’t have to explain most of the world. So now I can just have fun with cinema. [laughs] That’s what I will say, is that I think if ever such a thing happens as a Part 2, it’s going to be a cinematic party. I mean, it’s not the right word. I apologize. I will say it is going to be a cinematic blast for me. I think that I could create something much more built into cinematic action and less talking.” – Denis Villeneuve speaking to Fandango

The director originally planned for both films to be shot back-to-back however WB forced the director to film the first part only. Just to see how the audience would respond to the film; as the original book by Frank Herbert has been deemed unadaptable. Timothée Chalamet is expected to return as Paul Atreides alongside Zendaya as Chani.

Dune: Part Two hits theaters October 20th, 2023
