Director Julius Avery Set to Helm ‘Van Helsing’ Monster Flick For Universal Pictures

Overlord Julius Avery Van Helsing

Today, Deadline announced that Overlord director Julius Avery has been tapped to write & direct a Van Helsing-Esque film for Universal Pictures. Yet another classic monster flick the studio is looking to breathe life into after this year’s The Invisible Man and upcoming Wolfman films. The film is set within the world of monster hunter Van Helsing which made his first appearance in Bram Stoker’s classic Dracula novel. It’s unknown if he will be the main character or a side character in the film.

The Conjuring and Aquaman director James Wan will help produce the project. Hugh Jackman and Kate Beckinsale tried to launch a franchise in 2004 but the original film was met with negative reviews. It’s unknown if this will be a modern take on the character like in the other monster films.
