Before filming has even began on Amazon‘s upcoming fantasy epic based on The Lord of the Rings; the streaming service has renewed the show for a second season.

In conjunction with the renewal, Deadline reports the first season will go on a 4-5 month hiatus after filming the first 2 episodes. So that the writers can map out the rest of season1 leading into season 2. Which is pretty customary for network shows after a pilot is filmed.

The report also confirms that production will commence in New Zealand where the original films were filmed. With the hiatus in place the streaming service may even end up filming both seasons back-to-back to save money and time.

The Lord of the Rings will stream exclusively on Amazon Prime
