Today, Netflix has officially opened a casting call for the fan-favorite sassy blind earthbender Toph in Netflix’s next season of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Jenny Jue of Downtown Casting has taken over casting duties for the upcoming season from the original casting directors, Colloff/Nicolo Casting. Ironically, Jenny also cast the voice of adult Toph for the upcoming Avatar Studios feature film about Avatar Aang. That role eventually went to voice actress Donnie Quan, who took over voicing duties from original voice actor Michaela Jill Murphy.

We at Knight Edge Media (via Twitter) were informed in April that casting would begin sometime in the next few months, and the streaming service will indeed be open to casting any actress who is blind or has low vision like the character originally does in the animated series. Some notable fancasts for the role include Diana Tsoy (Peter Pan & Wendy), Miya Cech (Marvelous and the Black Hole) and Riley Lai Nelet (Paper Girls). Production is expected to begin sometime in the fall of this year and will run back-to-back with season 3 in Vancouver. We also learned that the streaming service is moving away from filming on The Volume and will go with more traditional real-life sets in the upcoming seasons.

Avatar: The Last Airbender will return to Netflix sometime in 2026
