Today, Sony Pictures announced several upcoming blockbuster films, like Kraven the Hunter and the Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel, have been pushed back into next year. Kraven the Hunter will now hit theaters on August 30th, 2024, and Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2 will hit March 29th, 2024. Madame Web moves up to Valentine’s Day, and Venom 3 moves up to July 12, 2024, from October. Unfortunately, Sony has also pulled Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse from their upcoming film slate altogether. The Karate Kid reboot movie is also moving back to December 13, 2024.
This move was unsurprising as many of the voice actors revealed during Across the Spider-Verse press tours they have yet to begin recordings for the third film. This is the first of many studios pushing their 2023 projects into next year as the WGA and SAG strikes effectively shut down Hollywood. WB is currently considering moving Dune: Part Two sometime into Q1 of 2024. The studios are simply trying to wait out both the actors and writers well into the winter before renegotiating their contracts.
