Today, Deadline announced that director Robert Eggers has indeed begun work on his long-in-development Nosferatu remake. The director had always wanted to remake the classic 1922 black and white vampire film but never could find the right talent or budget. He will also pen the screenplay. Forcing him to move forward with both The Lighthouse and The Northman. In 2019, the director was looking to cast Anya Taylor-Joy and Harry Styles in the lead roles but has now spoken to Lily-Rose Depp and Bill Skarsgård.

In the new reimagining, the pic is a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman (Depp) in 19th century Germany and the ancient Transylvanian vampire (Skarsgard) who stalks her, bringing untold horror with him.

Jeff Robinov, John Graham, Robert Eggers, Chris Columbus, and Eleanor Columbus will produce at Focus Features.
