Last week, Avatar Studios officially announced the full cast for Avatar: Seven Havens during their Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con. They also released the first teaser trailer, which featured a seemingly “evil” Avatar Korra during the planet’s destruction before Avatar Pavi’s time. As many already know, this is very much going to be a red herring and mystery of the show, as Korra will most likely be blamed for something she couldn’t stop. We have also known for a while that the original voice actress, Janet Varney, will not be returning for the series and instead wants an Indigenous actress to take over. This sentiment was confirmed with the recasting of every original character in the recently released Avatar Aang movie. So who could voice Korra in future projects?
One of Janet Varney’s main roles at Avatar Studios is co-hosting their official podcast, Braving the Elements, alongside Dante Basco. During the early days of the podcast in 2022, they introduced fan and stage actor Major Curda to talk about his love of the original series. We at Knight Edge Media speculated that he could be up for the role of Jae, given his strong resemblance to the character’s design. His appearance on the podcast turned out to be intentional, as four years later he was announced as part of the voice cast at SDCC.
Now, earlier this year, Indigenous actress Devery Jacobs appeared on the podcast to talk, ironically, about season 2 of The Legend of Korra. Jacobs gained worldwide fame with her Hulu series Reservation Dogs. However, she has also stepped into the world of voice acting, appearing in Marvel Studios’ What If? and another Paramount+ series, ARK: The Animated Series. Jacobs is also an outspoken activist for LGBTQ+ rights as a queer actress herself. It’s very possible she has already been cast as Avatar Korra in the upcoming series despite Korra technically being much older by the time she connects with Pavi. She is also follow and follows Mike DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. This should all be taken as pure speculation, as Korra’s new voice actress will most likely not be revealed until the show debuts.
