Today, a new rumor has been released by our friends at Fellowship of Fans, revealing that Ciarán Hinds will be revealed as a Blue Wizard in Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 3. The actor appeared in several episodes of season 2, simply named “The Dark Wizard of Rhûn.” However, many online fans speculated that this adaptation could be introducing Saruman earlier, after introducing The Stranger as Gandalf. Apparently, the real reason Gandalf was introduced was that the showrunners didn’t have the rights to all five wizards until after writing season 2. Now, they will be allowed to introduce the first Blue Wizard, Pallando.

While it’s unknown where his companion Alatar is, it should be noted that Tolkien gave two very different histories to the Blue Wizards. One history involves the two Blues traveling East and eventually succumbing to evil, much as Saruman did. However, a second (and more commonly accepted) account is that the two Blue Wizards traveled to the far East to sow discord among the Men of Rhûn during The War of the Ring. In order for Sauron not to be able to call upon reinforcements towards the end of The Third Age. Though it looks like the showrunners will be using the first version of the characters, as this version of the Blues has already fallen, and will try to sway Gandalf (played by Daniel Weyman) to join their side throughout the rest of the Second Age.
