Today, a report announced that Disney is eyeing a shortlist of actresses for the lead role of Rapunzel in the live-action remake of Tangled. The shortlist includes Sadie Sink (Stranger Things), McKenna Grace (The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping), Emma Myers (Wednesday), and Isabel May (Scream 7). The studio met with singer Sabrina Carpenter for the role, but had already passed on her (via Superhero Hype). Back during the SAG-AFTRA strikes in 2023, the studio was considering Florence Pugh (Thunderbolts). Scarlett Johansson is currently rumored to play Mother Gothel, though it’s unknown whether she will instead choose The Batman 2. No one has officially signed on to the project. Production on the remake is expected to begin sometime next year.
