Today, a report announced that Universal Pictures is developing a new Mummy sequel with returning stars Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz. The duo led a trilogy of Mummy films in the early 2000’s which was very reminiscent of Indiana Jones. The third and final film in 2008 featured the duo, married and with their adult son, as they leave Egypt for China. However, this upcoming sequel will retcon the events of The Dragon Emperor and be a true sequel to The Mummy Returns.

Scream 5 and Ready or Not directing duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are attached to direct the film. Universal tried rebooting the franchise in 2017 with Tom Cruise, which would launch a brand new Universal Monsters cinematic universe titled “Dark Universe”. The film was a total flop and canceled the cinematic universe before it could even begin.

The Mummy reboot has no set release date
