Today, a report announced that Netflix has greenlit a Captain Planet and the Planeteers TV series to order. The character is a very 1990s superhero and protector of the environment. Just last year, actor Glen Powell was in the process of adapting a Captain Planet movie that has yet to get going (via Collider). Greg Berlanti, alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, will produce the series. Berlanti is best known for producing all of The CW’s DC Comics shows throughout the 2010s, including Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow. After working on The Big Bang Theory, writer Tara Hernandez is set to pen the show. No casting has been announced for the series.
