After months of negotiations, director Greta Gerwig has secured a four-week exclusive theatrical run for her upcoming Chronicles of Narnia live-action adaptation film. In partnership with IMAX, Netflix will release this new film in 1,000 theaters across the US for four weeks starting on Thanksgiving Day 2026. The film will then finally release on the streaming service on Christmas Day 2026.
The director has been working on the script since Barbie was released in the summer of 2023. It’s still unknown what C.S. Lewis book she will adapt, but it is widely expected to be a “new take” on the franchise. Many fans assume she may adapt The Magician’s Nephew, the prequel story about the creation of Narnia, as that story was never adapted by either the BBC in the 1980s or Disney/Walden Media in the early 2000s. Production is slated to begin sometime later this year in the UK.
Greta Gerwig’s Untitled Narnia movie will hit IMAX theaters on November 26, 2026
