Director Dan Trachtenberg has been working hard to develop a new standalone Predator feature film after his success in 2022’s Prey. The upcoming film will be set in its own time period, separate from Prey. While the first Prey film featured a mostly unknown all-indigenous cast, it skyrocketed Amber Midthunder (Avatar: The Last Airbender, Legion) into stardom. The movie broke several Hulu streaming records, with many fans hoping its sequels are released theatrically.

The studio wanted to get a more established actor for the Badlands stand-alone film and learned Elle Fanning is a massive fan of the Predator franchise. After a meeting with Trachtenberg, the actress is close to signing a deal to star in the film. The time period in which it takes place is currently unknown, but production is expected to begin later this year. The studio also stresses Prey 2 is still in early development, with Amber Midthunder expected to return but not currently signed on.

Badlands has no set release date
