Today, Universal Pictures, in partnership with Illumination & Nintendo, announced that The Super Mario Bros sequel will hit theaters in 2026 during their Mario Day Celebration. The studio moving forward with a sequel is no surprise, given that the original film reached $1.36 billion at the worldwide box office. Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Anya Taylor-Joy, Seth Rogan, and Jack Black are all expected to return, though that has not been announced.

The studio is also moving forward with an animated and live-action adaption of The Legend of Zelda. They hope to create multiple animated projects based on other Nintendo characters to lead them into a crossover event in the future. As many fans know, Super Smash Bros was an arena-based game with many Nintendo characters fighting each other via split-screen. These characters included Mario, Pikachu, Starfox, Link, and Metroid Prime. Though this film has yet to be officially announced.
