Today, a new report has revealed that Nintendo is considering developing a Metroid Prime movie. It’s unknown if the film will be animated like Super Mario Bros. Movie or live-action like their upcoming Legend of Zelda movie. Though it makes the most sense as a live-action space adventure with a female lead, Samus. In November 2025, during a financial briefing, the video game company teased future untitled films are in development (via Nintendo Life):
“Following up on the release of The Super Mario Bros. Movie in 2023, we have The Super Mario Galaxy Movie scheduled for release in 2026, and the live-action movie of The Legend of Zelda planned for 2027. We are continuing to prepare for the ongoing release of movies in the future.”
Ever since Brie Larson came on the scene as Captain Marvel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2018, she has long been fancast for the title role. Larson is currently slated to voice Rosealina in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie out this Spring. The video game company is most likely waiting to see how The Legend of Zelda does at the box office before greenlighting more movies from the Nintendo universe. No movie studio, director, or writer has been announced for the project.
