Today, director Christopher Landon announced on Twitter that he has stepped away from the Scream franchise. This comes on the heels of star Melissa Barrera getting fired for her pro-Palesteinine social media posts. Followed by co-star Jenna Ortega stepping away from the franchise due to her prior commitments. Landon was going to take over directing duties from the previous director duo, Radio Silence. There have been rumors that the studio tried to reach back out to Barrera following backlash of her firing, but she refused to meet them, though this has to be confirmed. Since the stars exited, the next film was expected to be yet another reboot of the franchise with a whole new set of characters from writer James Vanderbilt. Now, with the directing exiting, it’s unknown what will happen to the classic slasher franchise.

Scream 7 has no set release date.
