Today, a rumor began that Melissa Barrera, the current star and anti-hero of the Scream franchise, had been dropped from the next film. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that the actress was quietly let go from the next movie earlier this week. The reason behind her firing was due to several pro-Palestininan social media posts the actress made about the ongoing Israeli-Palastine conflict. Production company Spyglass told Variety, “Spyglass’ stance is unequivocally clear: We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech,”

The film has had its share of problems with rumors Jenna Ortega may also not return to the franchise to focus on her Wednesday series on Netflix. As well as original scream queen Neve Campbell refusing to join Scream 6 for Paramount underpaying her. Christopher Landon is slated to helm the project after taking over for the directing duo Radio Silence. With Barrera getting fired, the script will be rewritten from scratch to exclude her character.
