Today, The Hollywood Reporter announced that director Christopher Landon has taken over directing duties on the upcoming horror film Scream 7. Landon is best known for directing the horror-comedy series, Happy Death Day. He takes over from the previous directing duo Radio Silence (Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett). The two revamped the Scream series, introducing us to the heroes Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera, and Mason Gooding following 2011’s Scream 4.

It’s unknown if screenwriters James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick will return for Scream 7 as the WGA-writers strike is still ongoing. Another rumor from Daniel Ritchman’s Patreon suggests that Jenna Ortega may not return to the franchise after starring in the last two films. This means the story may exclusively follow her onscreen sister Melissa Barrera. Ortega finished filming Beetlejuice 2 before the SG-strike commenced and is still attached to Wednesday season 2. Paramount Pictures is expected to return to produce the film.
