Today, Deadline announced that top Marvel Studios executives will begin meeting with potential screenwriters on the upcoming X-Men reboot under the new WGA guidelines. This shouldn’t be confused with the inclusion of the Fox Universe X-Men characters in both Deadpool 3 and Avengers: Secret Wars. The current Multiverse Saga is going to culminate in Avengers: Secret Wars with Hugh Jackman returning as Wolverine. However, the following phase is expected to fully delve into a rebooted X-Men universe and has been unofficially titled The Mutant Saga.

In 2021, a rumor began that the project could simply be titled The Mutants , but that was never confirmed. It’s unknown what storyline Marvel will adapt into the MCU as Fox has already done popular stories like Age of Apocalypse, Dark Phoenix, and Days of Future Past. The incoming writers will have a hard time differentiating their mutant universe from the 20 years of Fox films. Marvel is also gearing up for their Fantastic Four reboot to begin filming in nearly 2024, pending the ongoing SAG actor’s strike. Both X-Men and the Fantastic Four rights were reacquired by Marvel Studios after the 20th Century Fox merger with Walt Disney in 2019.
