Today, a report from Bloomberg.com has revealed that Warner Brothers is looking to finalize a deal with HBO to completely reboot the Harry Potter series. The series will take place over 7 seasons, with each season covering a different book. Variety adds it will be for HBO Max and not HBO Television. WB originally created 8 movies with a 2-part finale to cover each of the J.K Rowling novels. Though many fans of the novels have admitted that the films left out many plot points found in the books.
Nevertheless, the films grossed over $7.7 billion worldwide during the young adult craze of the early 2000’s. It’s unknown who will tackle the massive project as showrunner, but this is the third major franchise CEO David Zaslav has reignited after DC Studios and Lord of the Rings. Rowling will also serve as a creative consultant on the series but not be a head writer like on the Fantastic Beasts spin-off films.
