Today, Variety announced that screenwriter Steven Knight has taken over writing duties for the upcoming untitled Star Wars film. Knight is best known for writing the BBC period drama Peaky Blinders and the Oscar-winning film Spencer. This comes from the news that original writers Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson exited the project last week. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is still attached to direct. It was rumored it could take place after The Rise of Skywalker, with Rey and Finn returning in a minor capacity, but now that is unknown. Casting could be revealed as early as next month at Star Wars Celebration London, with production expected to begin in February 2024.

The Untitled Star Wars film is currently slated to hit December 2025
