Last year, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier debuted on Disney+. The series starred Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan as the Marvel odd couple. However, following the events of the Flagsmashers in the series; Sam Wilson finally accepts the title of Captain America after forfeiting it. A fourth film that followed his version of Captain America was quickly announced with writer Malcolm Spellman returning. However, nothing has been hinted to the film in over a year since the show’s debut. Now The Hollywood Reporter, announced that Nigerian director Julius Onah will helm the 4th film in the franchise. He directed the critically panned Cloverfield Paradox but made positive waves for his indie Luce in 2019. He takes over directing suites from The Russo Brothers who directed the final two Captain America and two Avengers films.
It’s unknown if Chris Evans will simply return as Steve Rogers for the film. However, during the press tour for Lightyear last month, the original Captain America actor stated to Comicbook.com: “I don’t want to disappoint anybody, but It was such a good run and I’m so happy with it… it’s so precious to me. It would have to be perfect. It would be scary to rattle something that is, again, so, so dear to me, and that role means so much to me, so to revisit it would be a tall order.” No production start date has been announced for the film.
