RUMOR: DC Comics ‘Joker’ Sequel Eyeing Production in 2023

In 2019, Joker broke onto the scene with a semi-origin story of Gotham city’s clown prince of crime. The film took inspiration from The Killing Joke and the film Taxi to tell the super villain’s origin story. The film also garnered star Joaquin Phoenix and Academy-Award & Golden Globe for Best Actor. While many fans enjoyed the movie, most thought it would be a one-off film for the studio. Maybe Warner Brothers will make more low-budget villain origin stories in the future like Lex Luthor. However, after the film’s release, a sequel was immediately discussed with the director Todd Phillips.

Today, Heroic Hollywood has learned the sequel’s first draft has indeed been turned into the studio. They are looking to begin production on the film sometime in 2023. Like any production date set it is subject to change. Star Joaquin Phoenix is expected to return as well as director Todd Phillips. It’s unknown if any original cast will also return for the sequel.
