Earlier this week, we at Knight Edge Media had discovered that actor Daniel Dae Kim had a meeting with Avatar: The Last Airbender showrunner Albert Kim. Daniel Dae Kim is best known for his roles on Hawaii 5-0, the Hellboy reboot, and this year’s Raya and The Last Dragon. We have long fancast the actor for the role of Fire Lord Ozai due to the actor having several villain roles in each of the original animated shows. As well as matching the age and physical appearance of the character casting call.

Today, Netflix has announced that the actor has indeed joined the cast as Ozai. He is the overarching antagonist of the series and the brutal father of Zuko (played by Dallas Liu). Ozai is responsible for burning Zuko’s face in a duel as punishment for speaking out of turn. He also is the younger brother of Iroh, who loses his throne to Ozai due to not having an heir. Production on the series begins in several weeks in Vancouver, Canada, and runs through May 2022.
