Today, Deadline announced that Rachel Zegler has been tapped to star in the title role for Disney’s upcoming Snow White live-action film. The studio saw many actresses audition (including a recent Oscar-winner) but was blown away by Zegler’s performance when they had an early look at this year’s West Side Story. The upcoming film is set to be directed by The Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb for the studio.

“Rachel’s extraordinary vocal abilities are just the beginning of her gifts, Her strength, intelligence and optimism will become an integral part of rediscovering the joy in this classic Disney fairytale.” added Marc Webb.

Zegler is currently filming Shazam: Fury of the Gods for DC Comics. She marks the second woman POC to be cast in a live-action film after Halle Bailey was cast as Ariel in The Little Mermaid. La La Land and The Greatest Showman duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are set to write new songs for the upcoming film. The film is expected to expand upon the original 1938 story of Snow White and The Seven Dwarves. Production on Snow White will begin sometime in 2022…
