Today, Warner Brothers announced that their long-in-development Willy Wonka prequel will finally see the light of day. The project was announced almost 5 years ago with stars Ryan Gosling, Donald Glover, and Ezra Miller being considered for the role of eccentric candy maker Willy Wonka (originally played by Gene Wilder & Johnny Depp). Now the film is looking to finally be released in Spring 2023.

Today, Collider has revealed that the original shortlist has changed for the role. The studio is now looking at Spider-Man star Tom Holland and Dune star Timothée Chalamet for the title role. It should be noted every studio is looking at both actors for their top franchises so this isn’t very surprising. Paddington director Paul King will direct the film. With a script by American Pickle scribe Simon Rich. David Heyman will produce the project for WB after his time on the Harry Potter films.

Wonka will hit theaters March 17th, 2023
