Today, Variety announced that Netflix has officially killed their Masters of the Universe live-action movie. The film was originally going to be made by Sony Pictures but was picked up by Netflix in January 2022. Kyle Allen was set to star as He-Man in the sci-fi epic originally played by Dolph Lundgren in the 1980s. According to the report, the Nee Brothers (Lost City) already spent $30 million working on the project for the streaming service before getting the axe. Mattel is looking to shop the film elsewhere, but for now, it stays in development hell. Netflix still ironically has a Masters of the Universe animated series that has been streaming since 2021.
