Today, our friend Daniel Ritchman revealed on his Patreon that voice-casting is currently underway for the first animated movie by Avatar Studios. The film will revolve around an adult Avatar Aang and his friends before the events of The Legend of Korra. The post reveals that the original voice cast beside Dante Basco (Zuko) will be recast for the film. The recast is not surprising as original voice actors Zach Tyler Eisen doesn’t do much voice acting anymore. While Jack Desena is busy working on The Dragon Prince for Netflix. And the voice actors used in The Legend of Korra (D. B. Sweeney & Chris Hardwick) are much too old for this age group during the film.
We at Knight Edge Media had heard that the new studio might be looking to cast ethnically diverse voice actors in the roles of Aang, Sokka, Katara, and Toph. The original series mainly had white-voice actors in all the major speaking roles. This diversity change echoes what Korra voice actress Janet Varney revealed over the summer she would allow a Native American voice actress to voice the character instead of her returning. Avatar Studios also hired Reservation Dogs writer Migizi Pensoneau (via ScreenRant) as a consultant on all Native American culture for the upcoming projects.
UPDATE: Avatar News has added that the voice casting is looking for Asian and Indigenous actors to voice characters in their 20s for Aang, Sokka, Katara, and Toph.
